"In the first months of 2024, the Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean region have experienced the effects of El Niño causing floodings and drought spells. As a result, an estimated 36.8 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance to address mainly food security, nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs"
Both Malawi and Zambia have declared national states of emergency due to the drought. It is predicted that 10 million people will be in food poverty or worse by the end of 2024.
WayMaker is looking to adapt our climate and food security initiative to respond by drilling 10 boreholes in 10 key locations to provide water, at least for some.
