Yes, you can set up a payment via your banking app directly to the WayMaker Bank Account.

We prefer it because there are no bank charges or Credit Card transaction fees. This would be our preferred method for regular monthly donations.

Please make sure you complete a Gift Aid Declaration to allow us to collect an additional 25% from the government and no extra cost to you.

Individual Donors

If you are an individual, then 100% of your donation goes to the cause.

Gift Aid allows us to claim an additional 25% of your gift back from the UK Government which we then use to administer the charity, pay bank charges and other ongoing administrative costs.

Companies & Organisations

If you are a company or organisation then 90% of your gift will go to the cause and 10% will cover the costs of transferring your money overseas, etc.

However, this may change to 95% for regular donations or even 100% depending on the situation and amounts.

Yes, anyone can become a WayMaker by making a donation. Individuals, Companies, organisations, or clubs can donate.

As WayMaker is a registered charity, companies and some other organisations can get tax relief on their donations and WayMaker will give them the necessary receipts of payment to do that.

For this reason, WayMaker is unable to claim Gift Aid on these donations.

No. To safeguard the charity’s money and assets and to act prudently WayMaker’s Trustees do not allow anonymous donations. This is to ensure we comply with the strict money laundering legislation that applies to charities predominantly working overseas.

However, No donation is publicised without the donor’s explicit permission and so whilst not anonymous to WayMaker, your donation is only known to us unless you agree to write a testimonial or something similar.

Yes, as a registered charity leaving money to WayMaker in your Will is a great way to leave a positive legacy for the future.

It can also reduce the amount of tax paid by the rest of your estate so your family can get the most out of their inheritance.

If you wanted to do this make sure you use our full name, WayMaker International, and our charity number, 1199440

Yes, No and Sometimes!

Yes, we work with an organisation to help recycle and reuse mobile phones and tablets by finding new owners in Africa. You can read more here.

No, in that we do not have a shop or facility to collect clothes or other goods on a regular basis.

Sometimes. There are occasions when WayMaker will send a 40-foot shipping container somewhere. On those occasions, we will run an appeal for the items we require. If you have signed up for any of our mailing lists then we will let you know when that happens.

No, sadly not. But if you were interested in opening, managing, and running one we would be very happy to talk to you about it. If that is the case please get in touch.

Fundraising

Sometimes. If you sign up to the mailing list we will let you know when that happens.

Yes, and we would be so grateful. Just go to our page on the Just Giving website and you can take part in an existing event that allows you to raise money for your preferred charity, or you can ask people to give for a birthday or special occasion. You can do it in remembrance of someone or even just do your own thing. Just make sure to select WayMaker on the Just Giving Site.

Gift Aid works by WayMaker claiming back the tax an individual would have paid on their donation.

All that is required is that you be a taxpayer who has paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year.

So, if, as a pensioner, you meet these requirements, then your gifts can still qualify for Gift Aid.

No. You only need to make a gift declaration once.  WayMaker can then claim for every donation you make in the future and any you may have made up to 4 years prior to the date you first made a declaration.

If your tax circumstances change, then please let us know.

Yes, of course. Please click HERE print off the form, and return it to us.

Governance Questions

One is part-time, and the rest are all volunteers

From June 2024, WayMaker will employ Andy part-time.

Having seen the fantastic success of our first two years with Andy as a volunteer, the Trustees felt that we could achieve so much more if Andy were entirely focused on WayMaker

Not one penny of the money donated to any specific project will be used to cover salaries. That money will come from generally allocated funds, the partner program, and donors who give to WayMaker’s general funds.

Everyone else volunteers, including our trustees, accountants, bookkeepers, and advisors.

This is an essential aspect of WayMaker’s function as a Charity.

We have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all partners we fund.

  1. We only fund people and organisations with whom we already have a relationship. It is part of our values of friends first!
  2. Every project begins with a grant application made to and considered by the Trustees.
  3. If approved, the first phase, phase zero, consists of architects’ plans and a quantity survey for building projects or a feasibility study with costings for other projects. This allows us to phase the project and the funding.
  4. The project is then broken down into phases, and the money for the next phase is only released as evidence that the previous phase has been completed.
