Introduction

Goodson is an apostolic leader based in a very rural part of north Zambia called Solwezi. In 1998 he planted 2 churches while still in Bible College! Having raised up leaders for each he moved away after graduating. Sadly, one of those churches is no longer there, but the other one is really healthy and has grown into one of the largest churches in the province.

Goodson is an incredible pastor, communicator, and church planter. He has an amazing apostolic quality that allows him to connect with church leaders not only in Zambia but across the surrounding nations and beyond.

Presently Goodson has no salary, regular income or continued support and survives by “Tent Making” and taking different seasonal jobs and temporary contracts which often take him away from the area he feels the Lord calling him to plant churches.

Your Giving – Just £400/month

We have discovered through the sponsorship of other pastors that your giving will have a disproportionate impact on Goodson and his ministry. Your money will put food on his table every day, and pay his rent and utilities for his home which will allow him to confidently focus his time, energy and thoughts on all that he is called to. This means rather than giving a large amount of his time and attention to raising funds for his own basic needs he will be able to focus his time on telling people about Jesus, planting churches, and fulfilling our mission to make a way where there is no way for the poor, sick, marginalised, uneducated, and displaced.

Just £400/month would provide a full-time salary for Goodson, which seems far too little to us, but this exceeds the amount suggested by Zambia’s Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket calculation. £400/month would represent a good base income for Goodson.

WayMaker would like to find an individual, group of individuals, church, organisation or company to sponsor Goodson. If that is something you, a group of friends, your company or your church could do, please fill in the form below and we will tell you how.

The following report highlights the many things Goodson has been able to focus his time with his own funds and “Tent Making”.

Church Planting: Solwezi, Zambia

Solwezi is the place Goodson believes the Lord has directed him to plant a church and so he has gathered a small group of believers to pray and share the gospel. On the 11th and 12th of March 2022 they held an outreach into the town and saw 14 people make commitments to be disciples of Jesus.

Goodson will continue to have outreach weekends like this one but is also reaching out to the nearby villages with the gospel and inviting them to come and worship Jesus each Sunday.

Goodson is focussing on making disciples and is desperately trying to raise funds for bibles for those in their small congregation, those recently saved as well as those they are expecting to be saved in the coming days, weeks, and months. In preparation, he is presently training and developing leaders so they can begin mid-week homegroups for prayer and bible study.

Church Building: Solwezi, Zambia

As funds are so limited for Goodson, and the congregation so poor, having a church building is beyond comprehension, nevertheless, they are believing God to provide them with some money for land.

Goodson says, “At the moment we are meeting in a makeshift shelter just for the sake of loving the Lord. We have several men and women meeting every Sunday, about 25 people, and we know by his grace we shall see the numbers grow”.

As part of their outreach strategy, they are visiting many of the villages nearby, sharing the Gospel with an invitation to come and love the Lord with them.

Equipping: Leadership Training

Goodson is a great communicator and an extremely gifted teacher. He has developed training for leaders based on NewFrontiers values and using the Purpose Driven Church.

The leaders Goodson is reaching are from very poor communities and as such are unable to pay to travel to conferences, or even to pay to attend conferences as such Goodson is always trying to raise funds to provide this training. When he does then he generously gives of his time and personal resources to help the church leaders.

He has successfully run these training days in Zambia, Congo and Malawi.

Community Farming: Food Security

The communities where Goodson is planting the church is very poor. The area is rural, with people largely uneducated and suffering from the effects of global warming where traditional farming methods are not producing sufficient yields for families to support themselves. Thus, it is important to teach people how to farm in a way that is effective, reliable, and sustainable. FOUNDATIONS FOR FARMING is a Christian organisation based on biblical principles for farming which Goodson teaches each community. Providing food security like this to these communities is a wonderful way of demonstrating God’s love for people as he trains, and provides seeds and support.

With the support from his friends, he has been able to provide training in several areas which have been well received by the villagers. Goodson says, “I have been able to see the benefit of the training in the sense that many people have had food to look after them for a longer period”. WayMaker is also looking for sponsors to help provide funding for these training programs too.

Goodson has also successfully run these training programs in Malawi

Care for the Poor: The Vulnerable

The Covid pandemic has caused the world to sit up and notice our own vulnerability to viruses, disease, and the helplessness we feel when defenceless against it. Africa has been living with the pandemic of HIV and Aids for decades which was widely reported on in the eighties but is now largely forgotten in the west. However, in Zambia and throughout Africa, HIV and Aids has resulted in many, many orphans in every community. Many elderly grandparents are now looking after these orphans with very little capacity to provide even the basics of food, water and shelter let alone things like school materials.

Goodson is involved in supporting these communities with the provision of humanitarian aid or the distribution of food as a result of the community farming projects and his own farming effort.

Personal Commitment: Doing the Hard Yards

Goodson is not afraid of hard work and is always looking for ways to be self-sustaining as well as providing for others.

He is involved in personally farming land so that he can help feed the community. He is planting crops and rearing animals to help support the preaching of the gospel by caring for their physical needs.

Goodson told us, “Apart from the Crop cultivation I am also trying to engage myself in Animal husbandry to support the other side of agriculture. At the moment, I am establishing poultry and Goat rearing which will also help me to use the manure for fertilization of the crops”.
