“It’s a tragedy echoed across swaths of Kenya, including Nairobi and parts of the famous Maasai Mara wildlife reserve, after weeks of intensely heavy rainfall triggered flash floods that have killed at least 210 people, left more than 90 missing and displaced 165,500.” (Source: CNN 5/5/2024)
Our Partners & Churches
This is a national tragedy, and our partners are telling us that the government’s response is very inadequate.
Schools in Nairobi and across the country are closed until further notice, and hundreds are dying every day.
Whilst the floods earlier in the year, which we provided help for, were mainly in the rural west of the country, this latest set of storms has now heavily impacted Nairobi.
We have partner churches there, the main base, where Andy visits, which is now flooded out.
Several other of our churches have been completely washed away, with several pastors killed and whole church communities displaced.
Message from our Partners
“Good morning Andy can I get some help to ferry pastor Jacob, his family from their church to a safe place with other church members.
The church was swept away as were their houses. Remember it is a slum area and so at risk of sicknesses too.
So far 2 church members have lost their lives, the rest have been displaced. They don’t have food, clothes or anything.
The phones are down and so the only way they can reach me is through a police phone.
If you can provided any assistance we would be so grateful. The situation is dire!” (Pastor Kevin Onyango – 27/4/24)
