The Hidden Cost of Conflict

How Iran’s Christians Are Paying the Price

When missiles fly, it’s usually the headlines that get hit first: military targets, political reactions, strategic wins. But buried beneath the noise are the stories that rarely get told. Stories that matter to heaven, even if they don’t trend online.

This is one of those stories.

A Prison. A Bomb. And People of Faith Caught in the Middle.

In June, as part of a major strike against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, Israel bombed several locations, including Evin Prison, one of Iran’s most notorious detention centres.

What didn’t make most reports? There were Christians inside that prison, some of them converts from Islam, already locked up for their faith, now caught in the crossfire of a geopolitical storm.

They weren’t rescued. They were relocated, moved to overcrowded, unsanitary prisons where their treatment has only gotten worse. Imagine being sentenced to 10 years just for being part of a house church… and then a bomb drops on your prison. That’s what we’re talking about here.

Christianity Was Already Dangerous in Iran. Now It’s Life-Threatening.

Let’s be real. Life for Christians in Iran, especially those who’ve left Islam to follow Jesus, was never easy. They’ve faced rejection by family, arrest by authorities, and pressure from every side.

But now? Things have escalated. With Israel and the West involved in recent strikes, the Iranian regime is turning its anger inward. And guess who they see as Western sympathisers?

Christians.

House church members. Bible readers. Baptised believers. They’re being watched, questioned, and in many cases, arrested. One Iranian Christian recently said, “It’s no longer about faith — it’s about survival.”

That hits hard. And it should.

The Border Is Filling Up

Some have had enough. They’re fleeing through the rugged and challenging borders into neighbouring countries, risking everything to find safety. These aren’t tourists. They’re traumatised believers, escaping interrogation and imprisonment with barely anything to their name.

And here’s where it gets personal.

WayMaker has trusted partners in the region. Local believers who are stepping up in incredible ways. But they’re overwhelmed. The numbers arriving are growing by the day. There’s not enough food. Not enough beds. Not enough hands.

But the need? It’s everywhere.

So, What Do We Do?

We can’t fix global politics. We can’t undo the bombing. But we can respond to the fallout — the real lives behind the headlines.

Here’s how:

  • Pray. Seriously. Pray for strength, safety, and courage for every believer still in Iran, and those on the run.

  • Give. Every pound makes a difference. We’re helping provide emergency food, shelter, and support through people we know and trust.

  • Share. Most people have no idea this is happening. Let’s change that.

This isn’t just a news story. This is the Body of Christ suffering. And if we say we’re followers of Jesus, we don’t get to scroll past.

“When one part suffers, we all suffer…” 1 Corinthians 12:26
