Red Week: Standing with Persecuted Christians

Red Week is an important week for us as we support our ChristCentral churches in Armenia who are helping persecuted Christians arriving from Iran. This global moment gives us the chance to pause, to recognise the courage of believers who suffer for their faith, and to stand together in prayerful solidarity with those whose journey is far from easy.

Red Week is a global initiative led by Aid to the Church in Need that shines a spotlight on persecuted Christians around the world. Each year churches, cathedrals, schools, and public buildings are lit in red to honour those who suffer for their relationship with Jesus. It is a call to prayer, to awareness, and to global solidarity.

As part of ChristCentral, WayMaker joins this global effort with a very personal connection. Through our churches and trusted partners in Armenia, we are helping believers who are fleeing persecution in Iran. Red Week gives us a moment to unite our hearts with theirs, to pray with purpose, and to stand with the suffering church.

Here are three focused Red Week prayer points for ChristCentral churches.

1. Pray for the Underground Church in Iran

Red Week highlights nations where following Jesus comes at great cost, and Iran remains one of the most pressured places in the world to be a Christian.

Pray that secret believers experience the presence and protection of Jesus. Pray for courage in house churches, wisdom for those discipling new believers, and strength for anyone facing interrogation or imprisonment because of their faith.

2. Pray for Refugees Crossing from Iran into Armenia

Many Christian families have no choice but to flee. Armenia is often the first safe place they reach.

Pray for safe travel across the border, favour with officials, and protection from danger, exploitation, or fear. Pray that families who arrive with nothing find security, friendship, and the assurance that God has made a way for them through the kindness of His people, and as you pray, consider helping our partners by giving financially toward the safe house which offers a place for these families to stay while they catch their breath, seek God, and ask the important question, what now.

3. Pray for Our Partners Serving on the Frontlines in Armenia

Red Week also honours those who work quietly and faithfully to support persecuted believers.

Pray for the teams in Armenia who transport refugees, provide food and shelter, and walk closely with families who have endured trauma. Pray for strength, clarity, and joy in their work, and pray that WayMaker and ChristCentral churches can continue to support them generously and wisely, and if you are able, please give and help make a way.

Closing Encouragement

Red Week reminds us that we belong to a global family in Christ. As ChristCentral churches, we have the privilege of standing alongside those who pay a high price for their faith. May our prayers this week bring strength to the persecuted, courage to the hidden, and peace to those who risk everything to follow Jesus.
