OUR PARTNERS: Dr Anjelo Okot and SAFE HAVEN Christian Schools

SAFE HAVEN Christian Schools was established to provide safe, affordable and transformational education for children and young people in Northern Uganda.

The work is led by Dr Anjelo Okot, whose vision is to see education become a catalyst for long-term community transformation. Recognising the desperate need for quality early years education, SAFE HAVEN launched an ambitious project to establish SAFE HAVEN Junior School Kalongo, serving Nursery and Primary age children across Kalongo Town Council and the surrounding communities which WayMaker has facilitated.

The partnership between WayMaker and SAFE HAVEN is built on shared values of Christian compassion, good stewardship, accountability and a desire to see lasting change rather than short-term relief.

Bringing Hope Through Education

For decades, Northern Uganda has faced the devastating effects of conflict, poverty and underinvestment. Although peace has returned, many children still grow up without access to quality education, leaving them trapped in a cycle of disadvantage.

WayMaker is partnering with SAFE HAVEN Christian Schools to change that.

Together we are building a new Nursery and Primary School in Kalongo, Agago District, creating opportunities for hundreds of children to receive a safe, high quality Christian education that will shape their future and strengthen their communities.

Why This Matters

Northern Uganda continues to recover from decades of instability caused by the Lord's Resistance Army conflict.

Many communities still experience significant educational challenges, including inadequate school facilities, overcrowded classrooms and limited access to quality early years education.

SAFE HAVEN Junior School has been created to provide children with a safe, child-friendly learning environment where they can receive an excellent education, grow in confidence and discover hope for the future.

The response from the local community has been overwhelming. Parents, local leaders and families regularly visit the site, expressing excitement about the opportunities the school will create for future generations.

At WayMaker we believe generosity deserves transparency.

Funding for this project has been released in phases against agreed milestones, with detailed financial reporting, photographs and accountability provided throughout construction. The project has demonstrated careful stewardship and responsible financial management while delivering excellent value for money

Looking Ahead

SAFE HAVEN Junior School is expected to open during 2027, initially welcoming approximately 200 Nursery and Lower Primary children.

The vision extends far beyond buildings.

It is about raising a generation of children equipped with knowledge, character, faith and hope, enabling them to become future leaders who will transform their families, communities and nation.
