Break the Cycle of Poverty: Help a Child Go to School, Eat, and Dream of Tomorrow

In Uganda, education can change the entire trajectory of a child’s life.Yet for many families living in poverty, even basic schooling is out of reach. School fees, uniforms, books, and meals quickly become impossible costs for families already struggling to survive.

Through WayMaker’s partnerships with trusted local leaders and churches in Uganda, we are helping children from vulnerable backgrounds gain access to education and the opportunity for a better future.

But a school place alone is not enough.

For a child to truly benefit from education, they need the practical essentials that make learning possible.

Things like:

  • A school uniform

  • A pair of shoes

  • A backpack

  • Exercise books and pens

  • A daily meal

  • Basic school supplies

These simple things can determine whether a child attends school or stays home.

A Model That Works

Following the incredible success of DaySpring Academy in Zambia, WayMaker is bringing its proven school model to Uganda. We are currently raising funds to build a Primary for over 200 children in Kalongo, and we’re aiming to open in time for the start of the Ugandan school year. We estimate that over the coming years that number will increase to 500 children

This model is built to last.

  • 70% of school places will be offered to fee-paying families who can afford it, covering the school’s running costs and staff salaries.

  • 30% of places will be fully or heavily subsidised, reserved for the most vulnerable children, including orphans and those living in extreme poverty.
